El John News, Jakarta - Giuseppe Garibaldi's flagship has now arrived at 107 Cape Priok Pier Jakarta North. Although it's already in Indonesia, the Italian Navy ship is still considered Italian warship and is not yet part of the fleet TNI Navy.

The ship was scheduled to be handed over to Indonesia on September 24, 2026. The diversion procession will be marked by reflagging or changing the flag from Italy to Indonesia.

Navy Chief of Staff (KSAL) Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali confirmed that until recently Giuseppe Garibaldi's status was still under the Italian Navy.

"This ship is still an Italian Navy ship today," revealed Ali at 107 Cape Priok Pier Jakarta North, Friday.

Once the surrender and the flag changes, the ship will be renamed KRI Sriwijaya.

"And then this ship will be named KRI Sriwijaya," obviously Ali.

Giuseppe Garibaldi's arrival was part of the ship's diversion process that was previously used to strengthen the Italian Navy. The ship traveled from Taranto, Italy, to Indonesia by crossing the Red Sea.

On his way to Asia, Giuseppe Garibaldi was escorted by two Italian Navy farms to get near Colombo, Sri Lanka. The ship then stopped in Colombo to refuel before returning to its voyage to Indonesia through the Strait of Malacca.

After entering Indonesian waters, Giuseppe Garibaldi got an escort from two battleships TNI Navy, KRI Brawijaya and KRI Prabu Silifuwa. The escort lasted until the ship arrived at Jakarta.

Ali made sure the ship's journey was safely untroubled. He also said the ship's condition is still pretty good.

"Thank God the ship has come safely and smoothly during the journey there is no obstacle at all. This ship is still in pretty good shape," said Ali.

After at Jakarta Well, the physical conditions and various facilities on board have come to your attention. Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin with the Deputy Chief TNI as well as the head of the staff has reviewed the ship's number directly.

According to the review, Ali said some of the ship's space and equipment are still functioning properly.

After officially joining the ranks TNI The Navy, KRI Sriwijaya will increase Indonesian ability to operate large platforms. One of the main capabilities of that ship is operating a number of helicopters.

Giuseppe Garibaldi can carry up to 14 helicopters. That capacity can increase even if the helicopter used to be smaller.

However, the whereabouts of KRI Sriwijaya is not only directed to the interests of defensive operations. This ship is also projected much to support the implementation of Military Operations in addition to War (OMSP), especially in the handling of natural disasters and distribution of humanitarian aid.

The ability to operate many helicopters is rated one of the most important advantages. With helicopter support, support and logistics can be made faster to the difficult areas of land and sea.

"So we really need a ship or platform that can carry a lot of helicopters. Because with this helicopter logistics will be able to drop a lot faster and into all these remote areas, which remote areas with helicopters can be dropped," it says Ali.

That ability can eventually support a rapid response TNI Navy when there was a major disaster. Moreover, Indonesian geographical characters as an archipelago state have a challenge of access to transportation and relief distribution.

With the submission scheduled on September 24, 2026, Giuseppe Garibaldi will officially change the flag to Indonesia and hold the name KRI Sriwijaya.

Ali hoped the ship could be used in the long run to support the task TNI Navy.
